A Scottsdale Child Injury Lawyer Focused on Arizona Bullying Prevention

Attorney Shane L. Harward

The goal is to put an end to bullying as soon as possible and before legal action becomes necessary. If you suspect that your child is being bullied at a Scottsdale school, in your Phoenix neighborhood, in a Maricopa County sports league, at a Flagstaff summer camp or anywhere in Arizona, you must take action. The first step is to have an honest discussion with your child about bullying. Your child should know that they can inform you and other responsible adults about the treatment that they are receiving or if they observe abuse. If possible, spend time at your child’s school and at extracurricular activities to observe behavior. Do not hesitate to bring up your concerns about bullying to teachers, coaches, and other parents. It is important that you not only voice your concerns, but that you also document your concerns in writing (certified mail return receipt if necessary).

Even if the bullying and injuries do not rise to a level to justify the expense of hiring an attorney, there are things that you can do to put a stop to it.

Here are some helpful Resources on Bullying:

Public Justice’s Anti-School Bullying Campaign

Government’s Anti-School Bullying Campaign

Please keep in mind that an attorney from our office will not get involved until you have, at a minimum, taken the steps outlined above to protect your child. If these steps do not solve the bullying problems and your child suffers a serious, permanent injury, then your child’s claim may justify the expense of hiring an Arizona lawyer.

When a child is responsible for the suffering and injury of another individual, and their parents, guardians, and administrators did nothing to stop it despite repeated requests, all must be held accountable.  A parent can raise their child however they want to but when their child is a bully, punishment on the parents may be warranted. The type of behavior that leads to serious physical and emotional pain and injury must be corrected. Furthermore, if bullying occurred at school, school officials may be held accountable if they should have been aware of and stopped the abuse.

If your child has suffered a serious injury because of bullying, please Call Scottsdale Child Injury Lawyer Shane L. Harward at 480-874-2918.

In the Entire Nation and throughout Arizona, Bullying is an Epidemic

Stories in which children are bullied until they feel suicidal are all too common. Most people endure bullying in silence. Throughout Arizona, there are children in schoolyards, at summer camps, and at playgrounds being mercilessly bullied right now. Some of them will be emotionally and physically scarred for life. If the school ignores repeated requests for help and your child suffers a serious injury, there is legal help available to put an end to this bullying and obtain compensation from those responsible.

Courts throughout the country are finding that school districts, youth sports leagues, churches, camp organizers and other adults do bear culpability when severe bullying is ignored despite the pleas from the bullied child and the child’s parents. Cyberbullying, physical harassment, and a wide-variety of civil rights violations depending upon the seriousness of the injuries caused may also be justifiable reasons for a lawsuit.
